Saturday June 18, 2011 Yorkshire and Humberside Youth Sailing Association Regatta
The event took place on Saturday as planned, despite our low water levels. 15 sailors and their parents travelled from all around Yorkshire to take part and had a thoroughly enjoyable days sailing. Here's what Charles, the Race Officer for the day, had to say:-
"The whole fleet showed some excellent boat handling in windy conditions. They also showed a great deal of tenacity sailing three 50+ minute races in those conditions. The starts were excellent, no shouting at all, clean away each time, yet with plenty of jockeying for position and boats up to speed at the gun. The 3rd start in particular was impressive with 1 boat 1/2 a second behind the line & the rest only 1-2 seconds off. I believe there was only 1 incident where turns were necessary & completed in the appropriate sporting fashion. All in all, this is a fleet these young people should be proud to sail in and one in which I'm sure that many adult sailor would struggle to keep up with & could also learn from. There was also a comment from the galley that it was so pleasant to be around such polite & articulate young people. For my part I will be very pleased to see the fleet back at Halifax later in the year, when hopefully we may have more water." |

23/05/2010. HxSC Open Day (It all started with Swallows and Amazons!) A very big thank you to all who visited the club and made this a very successful event. The weather was all we could hope for; the warmest day we have seen at the club this year and a good, if somewhat gusty west wind. An excellent turn out from both visitors and members made this a thoroughly enjoyable day. Many thanks to Captain Col. for organising the event, to Steve Davison and the Canoe Club for standing in at the last minute and to the Halifax 12th Sea Scouts for the use of their equipment. Finally a big thank you to all HxSC members and partners (Too many to name, but you know who you are) who gave their time and help to make this a good fun day. |

02/04/2010. Break-in. During the week, the locks from the gates have been removed and lost and one of the Sprint trailers has been stolen, even though it had the towing hitch removed. We recommend that, if possible, trailers are not left on the site or if they are, they should be 'beyond use'. |
