Mountain Bike Challenge : 6th June 2010 : ENTRY FORM

HxSC 2009 Mountain Bike Challenge

For the HxSC 2009 Mountain Bike Challenge, we organised two challenging circular courses, a 20 mile sport course for the fit and a 25 mile elite course for the super fit.  Both rides were through the beautiful South Pennine Hills on a combination of demanding off road terrain, local roads and lanes.  The courses started at the club and were routed via Ogden Reservoir, towards Oxenhope and Hebden Bridge. Both routes offered excellent mountain biking, great views and plenty of good clean (and sometimes not so clean) fun!

Money raised by the event is used to improve the club and its facilities as Calderdale’s main sailing and windsurfing centre.

This was the third year of the Halifax Sailing Club Mountain Bike Challenge.  Unexpectedly the weather was kind remaining  overcast but dry. It did brighten up (and warm up!) towards midday.

Previously riders have commented that the course and the event organisation were excellent, and that we should make the event an annual one. Not to disappoint and having learned from the past, this years event was very successful with over a hundred and forty entries! Of these all but 8 completed one of the two courses.

Last year, competitor Tony Wilde said "...... Nearly as challenging as the Alps/Dolomites during this year's Giro. Thanks to all those involved, the marshals, 'caterers' & route planners etc. and especially the photographer! I think I'm the only one who looks like he's enjoying himself! on your website! and I came 4th (on the 20 mile boy's route)". I wonder what he thought of this years event?

  Mountain Bike Challenge 2009

Thanks to all those who took part or assisted in this years event and for making it a tremendous success. We look forward to seeing you all again next year.

First past the post was David Woodhead with a time of 2 hours and 18 minutes, closely followed by Chris Taylor and Martin Hitchin.

If you are a mountain biker and have just completed this challenge then clearly you enjoy the excitement and thrills that this sport can provide. For more of the same why not try windsurfing or dinghy sailing.
