We are now well into this year’s season and we had some good sailing days.
There are a few items that I would bring to your attention :-
1. Plans are well underway for the 50th Anniversary dinner at Halifax Golf Club on the 10th October 2009. Please remember to book your place, as there is a limit to the numbers. We need your commitment early so please contact one of the committee to secure your place, a £10 deposit being required.
2. The fun day we were planning for the 16th August 2009 will now be changing its format due to lack of interest. We will be having some racing on the Sunday (the style to be decided) with some cheese and wine to follow, there may even be some prizes for the events. A poster detailing the changes is included with this newsletter.
3. We have had a couple of events so far this season
a) the Contender Open had a good turnout and some well contested racing, also better weather than last year
b) the Mountain Bike Challenge had a very good turn out this year, 147 riders and a good response from the members. I would like to thank all for the help they gave which enabled another successful day. This does help balance the clubs books
4. A message from the membership secretary – would anyone that has changed their e-mail address or started a new e-mail account within the last 12 months please let him know.
5. Starting arrangements – it has been decided to maintain the current starting sequence until the end of the season ie monohulls go on 4 minutes, multi-hulls go on 5 minutes. We will then take the item to the AGM to decide the best format for next year
6. We have arranged a working party for Sunday morning the 19th July 2009. There are a number of items to be addressed
a) the road and berth at the entrance have suffered water damage and need repairing
b) the jetty needs some work to keep it serviceable for the time being
c) some other maintenance items
Please come and help we will be up there from 9:00am
7. Club boats. These can be made available to members on request. We have a Wayfarer and a number of Toppers plus some windsurfing equipment. If there is a training course on then they will not be available but if you approach one of the committee we could try and help.
Thanks in anticipation to everyone for their support and I hope you all have a good years sailing
Yours
Walter Hodgson
