The sailing season starts at the beginning of April and runs until the end of November. Dinghy racing with safety boat cover is run throughout the season on Sunday afternoons and on Wednesday evenings from April to September with members racing in Sprint 15 catamarans and in Laser, Contender, Supernova, Streaker and various other dinghies. Dinghies/catamarans over 16ft in length and mechanically powered craft are not permitted. Other special events are organised through the season.
From May to September, Young Peoples’ sailing takes place on Saturday afternoons, with activities ranging from basic tuition to ‘fun’ racing organised by one or more of the club’s training officers. Parents and other club members attend and help to ensure these days are both fun and instructive. The club’s safety boat is on the water at all times. Members other than ‘Young People’ also take to the water to practise and take part in organised “less than serious” racing.
Dinghy sailing may only take place when a safety boat is on the water (see above) or under the terms of buddy sailing (see Club Rules Bye Law 12).
Windsurfers may take to the water all year round providing they adhere to the terms of buddy sailing (see Club Rules Bye Law 11) or when there is a safety boat on the water (see above). The club asks that safety is kept in mind and common sense should be employed when dinghies are racing. Because of the club’s size and location, it attracts a regular core of short board sailors.
Training courses take place throughout the year for both dinghy sailing and windsurfing. Details can be found on the Training page.
