Young People’s Saturday Sailing (YPSS) @ Denhome – September 7th

It was a busy  afternoon at Denholme  on Saturday as 12 boats took to the water,  including a Wayfarer from Denholme. As usual. the wind was  fluctuating between force 0 and about  force 3. When we started sailing the wind was blowing a north westerly from the jetty. Whilst we were on the water it moved around to an easterly  which means it was blowing over the hill opposite the club house, or trying to!! It made for interesting sailing.  We sent everyone out on the water to find the wind.  As nearly everyone ended near the bottom of the reservoir, this confirmed to me the wind direction. As part of Stage 3 which most of the Young People are working towards, William had everyone stopping at a buoy.

After tea break we played a short game of ball tigg. As the wind had got up a bit we had everyone practising racing by sailing from one end of the pond and back again. Look out Halifax Sailing club, these guys now know what tack they are on  and who has the right of way. Thanks must go to Phil and ‘windsurfing’  Nick for safety. Thanks to William who came and helped us run the afternoon in the absence of Henry and Steve H who had gone big boat sailing.  It was nice to see so many Halifax Club members on a Saturday afternoon.
Please remember  Fun Day is to be held on Saturday 5th Oct.   Usual games etc , BBQ and a chance to have a go on the High Ropes for those that like heights.  Look out for the email with more info.
See you all next week. Happy Sailing, Sue.
