Adult Sailing at Denholme – July 7

A warm welcome was awaiting the ever increasing HxSC contingent at Denholme Sailing Club. While Sue, Henry and Steve were aptly training potential new members, Steve Hill and me (Brendan Briggs) decided to take on the Denholme sailors in the club’s Picos.  With a light, shifty wind, Steve was grateful for the loan of my spare wind indicator which ensured that all boats were within touching distance of each other for the first lap. However, after rounding the last mark at snail’s pace, myself and a Denholme Lighting sailor made a break and reached the next buoy only to find another lull. The close racing then resumed towards the third mark.  Eventually, myself and Mike (Denholme Mirror sailor) stretched out a sizable lead finishing several minutes ahead of the pack.
The last race of the day was a repeat of the previous one with the exception that Steve and myself joined forces in “his” Hartley 12.2 (- asymmetric). Although we didn’t perform as well as the previous race, we enjoyed the double handed experience.
Denholme is a friendly club with plenty of boats that are available to borrow if you don’t want to bring your own.
Hope to see more HxSC members on the water in the months to come.
